★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 30 reviews · 2 hours 30 minutes (approx.) · from $236

Anniken and her family take you from Alta to Omdal Gard, about 30 minutes away, for a 30 to 40 minute ride behind Norwegian fjord horses. Warm clothing, a fire-lit Sami lavvo, cold Arctic tapas, and visits with sheep are included. In thin snow, the sleigh becomes a horse-drawn wagon.

“This was the highlight of our Norwegian cruise and is the best excursion we have ever take. What distinguishes this experience is the welcoming effort of Omdal Gard, their soft spoken explanation of farm life, sharing with us their pets—cat, dogs, sheep, Sami horses, etc. We went on a ride in a horse drawn sleight which Viggo had built 20 years sgo, but was so well maintained that it was like new. Along the way Viggo highlighted local wildflowers and trees., pointing out that the willows were…”

“This is such a fun experience! My 4 teens absolutely loved it. We had a personal tour of the farm and saw all the animals including their personal rising horses which we got to pet. We also got to pet the pigs and walk through the olive groves. It was a beautiful piece of land. At the end we had a nice tasting meal outside with fresh ham bread and wine. The sisters were so friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend it.”

Visit El Encinar organic farm in La Rioja’s Ocón Valley, see Duroc piglets and free roaming Spanish horses, tour the meat facilities, and taste organic Iberian ham, acorn fed ham, chorizo, and Rioja red and white wine with an English speaking host.

“Walking around the farm was good with plenty of info and seeing the pigs and horses. Chorizo tasting gave us lots of food but no actual wine tasting just a bottle of wine to drink. Tour was only 2 hours not 3 so overall expensive and not good value for money.”
